A JUST student tortured allegedly by the Chhatra League President

A complaint has been made against the President of Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling party functioning in Jashore University of Science and Technology-JUST. The complaint says, Shahreen Rahman Praloy (24), a student of JUST has been surviving a deep injury at skull after being beaten severely by the Chhatra League activists. Consequently, he lodged a complaint to the concerned authority against the criminals. In this context, the president of JUST Chhatra League picked up the student and tortured him all the night long and forced him for withdrawing the complaint. It has been reported that the incident took place on Tuesday (June 4) around 2:00 am in Shahid Masiur Rahman dormitory in room No. 306, the room where the Chhatra League president Sohel Rana resides in.

The victim, Shahreen, who is currently undergoing treatment at Jashore Sadar Hospital, said that he is a student of the 2019-20 session of Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) department. Sohail Rana, the Chhatra League president threatened to shoot him dead after torturing him throughout the night. Sohail then kicked him on the chest and threw him on the floor and ordered him to leave the hostel.

He said, "I hugged the feet of Chhatra League President Sohel Rana and begged him to live." Meanwhile, Sohail Rana said, ‘withdraw the complaint by tomorrow, otherwise I will shoot you’.

The victim student Shahreen said that I had given a written complaint in the incident as I was hit on the head in Monday's incident. In this incident, they started beating me with a thick rod after waking me up from two in the morning. Such torture continued until five in the morning. At one point I felt like I was going to die like Abrar Fahad of BUET, who was beaten to death by Chatra League leaders.

In this incident, the victim student verbally accused the Chhatra League President and sought justice to the Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain and concerned Hall Provost Dr. Md. Tanveer Islam. Later in the night, the Vice-Chancellor of the University visited the victim student at Jessore Sadar Hospital. He said that the university will bear his medical expenses.

However, JUST Chhatra League President Sohel Rana denied the allegations and said, 'There are groupings and conflicts in the Chhatra League itslf. Because of these groupings, false propaganda is being carried out in my name again and again.'

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain said, 'Investigation committee will be formed after receiving the written complaint. Action will be taken against those involved after getting the investigation report.
